Default clunking sound while in drive.

Hi, Does anyone else have this problem with their venza, because the toyota service department thinks I'm crazy... I just bought a 2010 Venza and after I start the car up, 3 seconds after I push the accelerator and drive forward I hear and feel a loud clunk under my feet or towards the left front side, while in drive. It only happens once and doesn't happen again while driving the car.. If I turn the venza off then restart the car it happens again each time...I have returned the car to service and tried to explain the noise, I even took a service guy on a ride to point out the issue. they looked over the car and said that there is nothing wrong and to just keep an eye on the problem that I believe is there...So what do I do, I have a clunk sound that I cant get fixed by toyota because they dont hear it....Has anyone experienced this issue..Some say it could be the engine clunking On while in drive. is that possible that it clunks On

My Venza has the same thing, but it only happens on the first 1-2 shift, when cold after sitting overnight. It's not overly loud, but it is noticeable. Haven't been to Toyota yet on the issue, but if they're anything like Honda was to deal with, they "won't hear it" either.

Yes I have the same clunk. The dealer could not hear it when I complained about it.

Several other rattling noises in the driver and passenger door area as well as under the hood are very annoying. BTW the car only has 3800 kms.

Hey all, I am a new member and I have a v6 awd 2009 loaded venza, I have some info for you....I have had the famous clunking or rattling type noise in the stearing column for several months. The dealership replaced the stearing column after the noise became very loud and I kept telling them that if I loose my stearing on a mountain road (I live in VT and go up and down large mountains all day) I will be all over them and Toyota (if I survive) anyway they replaced it and it is now gone, the Tech looked at the column and said that there is a "plastic" gear that was worn out(I have 20,000 miles and the noise started at about only 5,000) that has always been a metal gear and in his opinion should NOT be plastic...nice $40,000 car with plastic stearing components, please beware and if you have the noise get the column replaced ASAP..oh and the new one has the same plasric gear which will cause the same problem...nice huh....gotta go to work,
George

Does any one know a way to get toyota to recal the gear on our venzas to a metal one? It seems that this could be a problem for most of us.

I have an 09 AWD V6 Venza with 5000 miles. Have a clunking noise in proximity of the left front end when making a slow right hand turn into my driveway or into a parking lot that is not level. I had this since day 1 and have had it back to dealer at least 3 times about this . Always the same response that they can not isolate the noise (which they have heard) so they indicate that it is not a problem.

I am going to tell them about the plastic gear in the steering column that is referenced in GSCH108's thread.

Sounds to me like this might be my problem also.

Thanks

HI,
I just bought a brand new 4cly 2011 Venza in Puerto Rico this last February 2011, and I am experiencing exactly the same thing as you, a clunk sound coming like from the transmission. I am very concern about this situation. I have always believe on Toyota brand. I hope this is something normal, I have not go to the Toyota service department yet because the vehicle is so new that I really don't want anybody messing with it yet. I am impress about how you could explain this situation because exactly like that is happening to me. Please keep us inform if you or someone find any information about this annoying matter.

I have not picked up my 2011 Venza yet (next week I will). But it sounds like the clunk you hear and feel is the same one I hear and feel in my 2010 Camry XLE. The dealer here in Winnipeg said it is the brakes adjusting, w/c I do not understand. But when I was in Minneapolis recently, I stopped by a Toyota dealership and asked the service dept re this and without hesitation afetr I asked the question he said the same thing about the brakes adjusting. It's only when you start to drive away that this happens, right?

Thank you for posting this! I just bought a 2010 Venza about 3 weeks ago and I hear the exact same noise. It only happens when I first start the car to drive off. I called my local Toyota dealership and was told that there was no specific cause of the noise that it is standard on all new Toyota cars?? I am not sure how I feel about this answer!
