I HAVE AN 09 AWD V-6 VENZA. wHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY (EITHER DIRECTION) if comes to an ubrupt stop and makes a clunking sound.

This is the first vehicle I have owned that this happens with - others I have driven seem to have a much "softer" stop , when turning the wheel to its limits. (with minimal noise)


Or is this an standard characteristic of the electric assist steering?

Mine does this as well. I never thought of it as abnormal. The electronic assist makes it so easy to turn the wheels, there is less resistance when you are fully turned, giving the clunk. This is my opinion. Seems normal to me.

That doesnt sound standard at all to me, there is no need for that sound or maybe there is seeing as how another member experiences the same thing. It doesn't seem right to me though.

My '11 did it as I was leaving the dealership for the first time. It certainly got my attention. I think it is just tapping the mechanical stops. After driving it for 2500 miles so far I have gotten used to the light steering and only seldom get to the stops.

The same thing happens to me on my 2011 Venza which is only 45 days old (yes I'm still counting the days)

It seems to be standard with the use of the electric steering pump and light feel of the wheel turns.

Pretty odd at the start for me too but with almost a year of ownership behind me, it seems normal now
