So, when the road slants would want to move the car in a certain direction, it wasn't easy to make the micro-corrections in the steering to offset the road. I could see where this could be called wandering, but the Toyota dealer adjusted the power steering and it has steered PERFECT ever since this adjustment. They didn't even have to ask when I told them it seemed like the steering was "sticky" at highway speeds bun more responsive at slower speeds. I'm sure the car has a variably controlled steering box based on speed...nearly all new cars have variable assist.

Anyway, about the back noise...we don't feel like it is excessively noisy. However, you will find on different forums that toyota didn't do a great job of undercoating, so if you're driving on roads with loose material, it will sound noisy under the wheel wells.
Did you know the steering in these cars, and many others on the road, are electric? Thought I'd throw that out there for ya!
Happy Motoring!

The "6" was driven on a highway. The 20" tires don't help and they're expensive to replace. Also it turns out the dealer had the wrong pressure in the tires. The Michelins seem to ride quiter than the GoodYear. Today I drove another one and noticed the rear wheel wells had a fibrous insulation applied at the factory, which quietened the interior. Both dealers admitted the steering and the noise were something one had to get used to. The old type undercoating would help but down here in NC it's hard to find.

On another subject.....what are you doing, if anything, about the lack of cup holders for the rear when the rear, center seat is occupied?

We don't let 'em drink in the back seat.

Right - rack and pinion with electric motor vs. hydraulic pump and piston.....

So, I guess it's electric assist rather than POWER assist!!!

It seemed like a very easy thing for them to adjust, and it made a world of difference in how the car steered on the highway.

Bought the Venza. Undercoating and the Venza rubber mat in the rear really worked as far as the road noise is concerned. Still needs more undercoating in the wheel wells which will be done next week. The car is sensitive to tire pressure and the steering was adjusted so we have no "wandering" problems. The only thing I'm disappointed in is the Venza'a inability to automatically upload my cell phone book.

Check the following site to determine if your cell phone is compatible in that regard. It may pair, but, if not a full compatible listed phone model, it will not upload you address book. I know, as I've "been there done that!"

If Largeone is still around, i would like to know what Toyota did to repair his steering problem, as I have the exact same problem with mine. (tight in the middle, yet wandering feel).

Hope someone can help.

I'm still around intermittently!

I couldn't tell you exactly what they did, but when I told them about the problem, they fixed it right away. I basically explained to them that I thought the steering was adjusted incorrectly for highway vs. slow driving. At speeds above 45 or 50 mph, it was really tough to make minor adjustments in the steering...almost like the steering wheel was "stuck" and you had to "break" it to make minor adjustments. The made a correction in the electronic controls and it has steered perfectly ever since.

Take it to the dealer. They will get it fixed. Keep taking it back until they do.
