Smile Aftermarket Audio Stuff

Hello !! I own a 4cyl base model with sunroof. I also own a custom car audio/video buisness and I'm in the process of putting in an aftermarket system now. I just finished a top of the line security and remote system. If anyone needs pointers or pictures of what I have done or plan to do, remove parts, what works and doesnt work, PLEASE feel free to reply here or e-mail me at (hazardousconcepts@yahoo.com). I really like this car and it will be a big challange for me to put everything im doing to it and keep it looking factory (except for the indash kenwood dvd/nav). Have a Great Day !!!

H.C.

Default Update on the aftermarket audio

Well guys ! I successfully installed the in-dash DVD/DDIN Screen in the venza and it worked out great. Some details I need to pass along. First, according to Metra Electronics, the wire harness (base model) is the basic toyota harness and works well with only 1 issue. The 6x9 speakers in the front door are amplified so they do not work through the harness. You MUST go to each kickpanel and chop the speaker wires there to bypass the amp. Not hard just took about 1 hour longer than it needed to.

The mount kit (really just a face shroud) from metra looks good but like all custom installs out there, DUCT Tape was involved. The design was great except no way to keep the vents and the A/C controls from moving unless you duct tape the shroud to the bottom of the radio. After that it works great.

I used the PAC SW-JACK steering wheel adaptor and it worked flawlessly.

I will have pic soon and if you have any questions please e-mail me anytime at hazardousconcepts@yahoo.com

Thanks

HC

IAMVENZA, thanks for sharing! You should think about doing a write up on some of those things, if you have time ofcourse. I'd like to put a security system and remote start on mine, and dont even know where to start...

I just got a 2010 Venza with stock radio. (No JBL Upgrade) I wanted to add a little kick to the stereo. I have done simple speaker upgrades before, but not much in the way of amplifiers. I was thinking of replacing the 6x9s and 6 ½ speakers and adding a thin amplified sub woofer. How involved do you think the sub would be? I would have to do the work myself or my wife will kill me for putting more money into the car. What would you recommend?

IAMVENZA -

A couple of questions on your customization -

What sound deadening did you use? I've been considering Dynamat or Raamat. How much road noise reduction did you get, and did you note results from doing just the trunk, front doors or rear doors?

Regarding the front speakers - I'm considering just updating those to start. I do not have the JBL system, just the base 2010 unit. Could you clarify yor comment on the front speaker amplification and harness bypass? Does this apply to a simple front speaker swap, and would standard 6x9s fit into the existing mount points, or would I need a mounting adapter?

Thanks and Regards,

Hello. For starters, I used a company called "blackhole" for the sound deadening. They are a rubber based product not an asphalt base. This works much better. I did the spare tire area and all doors ( 2 layers in front doors)

As for the front speakers, they are amped separately even in the base model which is what I have too. No 6x9 aftermarket speakers are too big so a mod plate and 6.5" will be better. Now, if you are keeping the factory stereo, it can be Trickie. The reason being, is the front doors are crossed over not full range so only a mid bass driver will work. A coacxial would not since the highs only come from the factory tweets in the dash. If you are going to replace the factory stereo, then I recommend calling me for more info. That will be much easier. My cell is 304-634-0369

I hope this helps

Scott
