The reason I ask, is that I have to depress the button for a couple of seconds.

| To all: I met with the dealer regarding the back hatch door not always responding to my various command-methods of opening it. Toyota was great: understanding, patient, concerned... It truly was customer service at its best. The bottom line, though... My hatchback worked for them every time, of course, even under the different scenerios I reported to them, which I personally discussed with the service manager. They suggested different possibilities (which I'll indicate below) and contacted the main service department (wherever that is) to see if any similar problems have been reported and look for answers to my problems. I will hopeto hear from them tomorrow or the next day. The suggestions presented to me were: 1. My bluetooth telephone may be interfering; it may be too close to the Smart Key in my purse. 2. There may be some type of wireless interference relating to buildings, billboards, etc. 3. I sometimes start the car to warm it up, leaving the car running while I return to the house with the Smart Key; it was recommended this, perhaps, causes the Smart Key to go into "default" thereby requiring some type of reactivation through driving, opening/closing doors, etc. As I said, I expect a call tomorrow or the next day. /j |

| By the way, Ken, thanks for the suggestion. In fact, a couple months ago the dealer reminded me I had to depress the hatchback OPEN button for several seconds. Since that reminder, I do so. The thing is, I hardly ever use my Smart Key; it remains in my purse unless I have to warm the car up in the mornings. /j |

| Hi, DF I hate to throw a wrench in things, (I, by the way, am the one who is having various problems opening the hatch...) But, when I open my hatch through the use of the touchpad on the hatch door itself (which is, I suspect, what you mean through the word "manually") it opens all the way by itself with no effort on my part. This, maybe, is not what you want to hear. I would have posted this to the entire group, but I'm new at this thread stuff. /j |

The doors have to be unlocked before the hatch can be opened from the dash button. It's the same way on my Toyota Highlander We just bought a 2010 silver grey, feature package 2, with nav this past Friday for my wife. She's alway been a Subaru driver (4). With the scacity of 2010 subie outbacks we looked at the Venza. It's growing on her. ![]() Good luck John Last edited by jgbiker; 02-28-2010 at 01:09 PM. |

| I have a similar complaint. Although I do think it may be operator error. It seems to me if you have the car set to use the automatic door opener, the manual will not work. If you try forcing the manual, it seems to mess up the automatic somewhat and it won't work properly. I've gotten better about not trying to manually open it and I haven't had a problem since. Although there are times where I would like to be able to use the manual opener instead of the automatic and vice versa without having to toggle the override button. I think this one may just be a bad design choice. |

| I don't seem to have the problem anymore, this occurred after I took it to the dealership to check out -- for the second time. They could find nothing wrong with it, although they removed the "child lock" feature on the doors. Thereafter, the hatch worked fine for me in all situations, as long as I remembered to check the hatchback lock button located inside on the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel. (It would sometimes be in the locked position, possibly being hit by a knee...) Good luck. /judy |

| We bought our 2011 Venza 3 weeks back and we had similar problems of opening the hatchback with the push button inside the car. Yesterday it did not open with the fab too. After trying all methods of locking all doors, unlocking all doors, starting the engine etc,,, now the fab does not work at all. We had to use the manual key to lock the doors before we went in home. The fuel - current economy reading also goes bizzare... like showing 90miles/gal, drops down to 5 miles and for a short while shows the expected average between 22 - 30. This extremes happen even while on cruise setting on the high way.... any comments? We made an appointment with the service dept at dealer for Monday morning. let us see what they come out with. |

Also, regarding another poster's comment, the rear hatch also does not "auto" open when you open it from the rear of the car (only from the dash button or remote). The dealer told me this is normal operation as well. |
